Voluntary Activities – Girls’ Self-Protection
In order to reinforce the concept of self-protection aiming for helping them stay away from sexual abuse. On October 18, the chronicle Department of the Institute of water resources and hydropower launched the theme activity of "protecting girls and caring for our bodies" at Taiping Experimental Primary School in Yucheng District, Ya'an City. Six volunteers were organized as teachers to popularize knowledge about sexual safety to children and teach them how to calmly deal with sexual abuse.
After a ten-minute drive, the volunteers came to the activity site. The local school teachers warmly greeted the volunteers and led them to the lecture class of this activity. A popular science class of caring for the body knowledge interspersed with games was launched.
The volunteers first held a simple little game Learn About Your Body. By asking the children to identify various parts of the body on the stage, they could know more about their own body, and then understand what is the private part of the body. Next, the volunteers took the children to learn which behaviors are sexual violations and how to prevent and face sexual violations; During this period, we also had a class interactive Q & a session with children to consolidate the knowledge about sexual abuse. The volunteer teacher asked simple questions about sexual abuse, and the children answered the correct prevention methods according to what they learned in class. For example, it is necessary to prevent inappropriate physical touch by others around us, and timely inform parents and call the police after sexual assault. Candy is used as a reward in the process, which greatly improves the enthusiasm of children. At last, the course ended successfully in a positive talk game played by volunteers and children, and the atmosphere was warm.
This volunteer activity not only improved the volunteers' teaching ability, but also a good opportunity to educate the children about sexual abuse, effectively improving the children's awareness of self-protection.
